Lugo Cathedral

A Romanesque cathedral steeped in centuries of history and art, housing a valuable museum within its walls.
Lugo Cathedral, begun in the 12th century, is one of the great landmarks of Galicia’s religious heritage. Built in the Romanesque style on the site of an earlier church, it has gradually incorporated Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical elements over time, reflecting its long history. Although its exterior is austere compared to other Galician cathedrals, its interior surprises visitors with its artistic richness and sense of spaciousness. Highlights include the Baroque chapel of the Virgin of the Large Eyes, the high altar and the choir stalls, as well as its stained-glass windows and decorative details. The visit also includes a museum and access to the cloister, from where the architectural and artistic details of the complex can be better appreciated, offering a complete experience of the monument.
