Square of Saint Dominic

A central square in Lugo featuring the Bimilenario monument, a Gothic church and bustling city life.
Praza de Santo Domingo is one of the liveliest and busiest squares in the historic centre of Lugo. It serves as a link between the Roman Wall and the city’s main shopping and dining streets. The square is dominated by the Monumento do Bimilenario, a large granite column topped by a bronze eagle commemorating the 2000th anniversary of the founding of Lucus Augusti. Next to it stands the Church of Santo Domingo, a Gothic-style church that retains the austere character of the former Dominican convent. It is also a landscaped pedestrian area, with rest areas that invite visitors to take a break right in the heart of the city centre. The surrounding area is home to a concentration of services, shops and a wide range of dining options, making it one of the liveliest spots in the city.
