Roman Bridge

Roman bridge over the Miño, the former access point to the Via XIX and part of the Way of St James.
The Roman Bridge of Lugo spans the River Miño and is one of the most significant examples of Roman engineering in the city. It dates back to the 1st century AD, although it has been renovated on several occasions since then, particularly during the Middle Ages and the Early Modern period. This bridge formed part of the ancient Via XIX, which connected Lucus Augusti with Bracara Augusta, now known as Braga. In Roman times, it must have been a monumental structure, befitting the importance of this route within the Empire. Today, original elements are still preserved in some of its piers, where the Roman construction technique can be appreciated. In addition to its historical value, it remains a regular stop on the Primitive Way to Santiago de Compostela.
