Leaving the historic centre through the Porta do Campo Castelo, you can enter O Vello Cárcere, a former prison converted into a cultural centre and another of the things to do in Lugo.
With over 130 years of history, this building served as Lugo’s main prison between 1887 and 1981, and still retains its original structure with an iconic semi-circular layout (the panopticon), where the men’s cells were located.
Nowadays, it hosts all kinds of temporary art exhibitions and displays, concerts, plays, conferences, talks, workshops… etc.
